Marines and the 'massacre'

The above was taken so many years ago in My Lai. History repeats itself in Haditha.

In Washington, Congressman John Murtha, a former Marine and a harsh critic of the war, said that the episode might prove to be America’s darkest hour in Iraq.
“This is the kind of war you have to win the hearts and minds of the people. And we’re set back every time something like this happens. This is worse than Abu Ghraib,” he told ABC television.
“Who covered it up? Why did they cover it up? Why did they wait so long?” Mr Murtha said.

My Lai was one of the major turning points in Vietnam, After Life ran the photos, many more began questioning our role, presence and attitude towards the war. Will Haditha prove to be the same?

There is one difference between the two wars and the massacres. We, now, do not have the type of coverage of the war as we did in Vietnam. Back then the first stories Cronkite led with with the stories from Vietnam. Reporters and cameras were not shackled by the "embedded reporters" rules of today. Then we saw the bodies being brought home. Now the stories lead with the box office numbers for The Da Vinci Code. And why is this? Is this because this war and the lives lost aren't important? Or is it because there is a concerted effort and edict to keep this war out of our sight so W and friends can continue the escapade.

We have truly entered the dumbing down of America.
